V. Vale's report from Vegas
The closing party, January 30, 2004, for the 25-year SRL Retrospective at the Donna Beam Gallery at the University of Nevada Las Vegas (UNLV) featured large photo blow-ups from performances all over the world, plus razor-sharp enlargements of SRL show posters--they were better than the printed posters themselves. SRL videos played upstairs, 2 machines were on display on the ground floor, and a special edition, beautifully-designed CD-ROM of SRL graphics was on sale for only $2!
David Therrien from Phoenix showed up with his friend Ande, as well as Steve Lassovszky (wearing a cowboy hat) who moved from S.F. to L.A. Steve was also in town for the mobile helicopter show which he participated in, Sunday Feb 1. The gallery served food and drinks. V. Vale and Marian Wallace did a small interview with Mark Pauline on mini-DV tape which will be available soon (caveat: the sound in the gallery was "problematic" so a few subtitles may be required). It was great to see the large, almost life-size blow-ups; additionally, the video projection was crystal clear. This is the first of hopefully other SRL 25-year celebrations this year.
